Believe it or not, the beautiful and poetic King James Bible was commissioned for political reasons by the wicked son of Mary, Queen of Scots, the cousin of Elizabeth I.
This version of the New Testament is based almost purely upon the 1525 translation of William Tyndale, while the Old Testment relied heavily upon the Geneva and other translations. By direct order of the king it excluded the Geneva marginal notes, which were considered rather subversive in the opinion of a ruler who believed in the divine right of kings.
The King James version of the Bible was first printed in 1611 and has become the most printed Bible of all time, replacing the Geneva Bible as the Bible of English speaking Christians.
We now have a limited number of early King James version pages available, all printed before 1640.
These will be available in the same formats as our Geneva pages.
